Television, a Double-edged Sword (by Ahmed Elghezlani)

A few weeks ago my uncle told me "Television has prevented us from having conversations. In the past we were used to gather and have an enjoyable conversation, but now things have changed. Alas !". There are many people who share my uncle's opinion; however, I strongly believe in the opposite, because television for me is a platform through which we get knowledge, practise critical thinking and share our opinions.

Watching television can show you the latest news of the glob by one click. Many channels broadcast news and social programs everyday; therefore, when people meet in a cafe or a public place they start discussing what they have just watched. Moreover, watching television everyday can push some people to question the information that they receive.

Through television people can use their critical thinking. Most of the masses, especially university students, make clubs in which they criticize what is being broadcast on television, like politicians' speeches. Besides, by like these activities _making clubs_ people will develop the communication skill and share their point of view.

Watching television can make a gab between the masses. For example, nowadays most of youth are addicted to horror movies, action films and animation series. So, if parents are old-fashioned and their kids shoose these kinds of programs, there will be an absence of communication; however, if parents control what their children like to watch and be aware of them, then they will develop the habit of conversation.

Indeed, television is considered as one of the main tools which keeps us up to date with all what is happening in the world, and it injects us with huge amounts of infirmation that push us to use our critical literacy and express our opinions.
